I want to steam cook something really good. using roast or beef. and various veg. any suggestions? how lng for?
i have 4 hours to cook it and i really want something nice to cook in my new steam cooker! i like carrots, peas, green beans, onion, sweetcorn.
Steak is not something really good to steam, but I guess you could steam a roast. Chicken and fish are good items to steam, and yes veggies also. When you cook things like poultry they cook fast. Like 20 minutes, veggies 8 to 10 depending on what kind. Peas fast like 5 minutes max. I suggest vegtables should be cut all same size and the harder the veggie the smaller than the rest. Steam cooking is fast and does not take hours. But I guess if you make a roast it would take awhile, but then it would loose all its flavor. The steam is good to keep things tender, but oversteaming can kill something. Try some chicken breast with a little ginger and green onions, after 15 minutes add some carrots, peas, mushrooms, cabbage. Make a dipping sauce with some soy, orange, lemon, lime and a little peanut oil and ginger and serve. Steaming is a healthy way to cook and you can make a lot of asian food with it.
You can cook whole chicken or fish or crab or lobster or corn..etc in steamers. You could do meat if it is thin or pork!
