How to adjust the pilot light for the cooking burner potion of G.E. Americana range. Unit is 3-4 years old.?
When first entering the house, I can sometimes smell the fumes of the pilot lights of the stove. Someone suggested
turning them down. Maybe the pilot for the oven too.
Pilot lights can be adjusted I have done this many times.Lift the top of the stove and follow the two Aluminum tubes from the pilots back to where they both come together there will be a small screw that you screw in clockwise to turn them down.On some stoves this screw is under a piece of tin that runs across the front of the stove,There will be a very small hole that you can put a small screwdriver through.The screw never seems to be directly under the hole and takes a bit of fishing to find the screw slot.The Oven Pilot can also be adjusted same as above follow the Aluminum tubing back til you find the adjustment screw.The oven has a primary and secondary pilot the primary is the standing pilot and when you turn the oven on the pilot gets larger [secondary pilot] and heats a thermocouple up which allows the main gas valve to turn on.If you adjust the oven pilot down too low the secondary pilot will not heat the thermocouple enough and the main burner will not turn on so you will have to check this when adjusting.
