How many people should this cake feed?

I am thinking of baking my son's 1st birthday cake at home, and plan to buy this Wilton #1 Cake Pan:

The pan you are looking at says it takes 2 cake mixes. The size is 10 x 15. If you cut the pieces of cake 2" x 3" (which makes a nice size piece of cake). then you would cut 5 pieces along the width and 5 pieces along the length...and you would get a total of 25 pieces of cake.
I work as a cake decorator (for 30 years) and that is the portion size we recommend for a regular birthday cake.
One cake mix will make a nice cake 8 x 11. I am certain one mix would not fill your pan full enough. If you did it would be really flat and for this cake you are going to want it to rise to the top of the pan. A bakery half sheet pan (which is 2 mixes) measures 11 x 16....the pan you are looking at is 10 x 15.25. Your mix will not overflow the pan.
The only thing you need to watch with a Wilton pan like this is: they are made from light weight aluminum and the sides of the pan tend to bake the cake along the edges before it rises to the top of the pan. You may want to bake your cake in a cooler oven than what the mix, or recipe, tells you.
For instance if your recipe, or the instructions on the box say to bake two 9 inch round cakes at 350 for 35 minutes, then you'll probably want to turn your oven down to 325 and bake it for 40-50 minutes. You'll need to watch it carefully...cakes are done when pressed lightly in the middle, they spring back.
It is very easy for large cakes to get way overdone on the outside edges before the middle is done, so you don't want to bake it any longer than you have to.
