how sturdy is silicon? can you make a mold of a person and have it stand up?
i am going to be doing some stop motion animation. how would silicon work for making little people? would it stand up? or would it be to jiggly? and could i put clay on it for the faces? anything you could tell me would very much help. i was also thinking about using cold foam latex. how would that work out?
silicon is a rather expensive metal used for electronics in pure form and as an oxide in glass, quartz, etc.
silicone plastic is the stuff you are probably thinking of and it comes in various densities and hardnesses. I have only used the soft to medium, so I don't know how hard it gets, but if you are talking a few inches tall, it should be fine. I see a real problem in getting plasticine clay commonly used for stop motion to stick, but that might be just the slippery kinds I used. But if you were thinking of posing these figures without wire stiffening inside, I think you will have a real problem with a molded figure simply going back to that form when you let go after bending. That is part of the reason that plasticine clay is used - it doesn't rebound.
