Any tips on baking banana cake?
Actually, this is my 1st time baking n so i have no idea wat shud b taken care of while baking cakes, plz suggest some simple tips. Can i add vanila essence to this? i don't have those cereal so can i do without them? how do coat the cake?here's the recipe:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons CALUMET Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cups POST SELECTS BANANA NUT CRUNCH Cereal
1 cup chopped PLANTERS Walnuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl; set aside. Beat eggs in small bowl. Add bananas, oil and water; mix well. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened. (Batter will be lumpy.) Stir in cereal and walnuts.
Pour into greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
Bake 55 min. to 1 hour 5 min. or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 min.; remove to wire rack. Cool completely.
Just follow your directions fully. This one is easy because it's done in a loaf pan like banana bread... so it won't fall or anything the way you hear nightmare stories on baking the first cake from scratch - lol This one will be dense and stable because it's more of what's called a "quick bread" recipe.
You will need to make a substitution for the cereal, but you can use the same amount of any sort of flaky crunchy cereal. If it's plain like corn flakes or bran flakes, add a little bit more sugar... and if it's sugary like frosted flakes, reduce the sugar in the recipe a bit to compensate.
You can add vanilla, but it probably won't matter much in the end...
