Why my radiator does not seem to warm up my apartment?
I live in a two family home. My landlord lives on the top floor (2nd floor) and I live on the first floor. Our broiler is in the basement. It seems all the heat goes straight to his apartment. I get little to no heat. There's some heat but not enough to keep warm. It seems the living room gets a little more heat than my bedroom. My bedroom is like an ice box.
Do I need to change the radiator valve to get some of the heat that my landlord is getting? Why is it that I'm not getting any of the heat?
If it's hot water heat, there may be air in the radiator. There should be a bleed valve on it near the top.
If it's steam (and only has one pipe) then there will be an air vent on the side, near the top. They don't last forever. If it isn't venting the air in the radiator when the boiler's on, it needs to be replaced.
If it's 2-pipe steam, there will be a steam trap on the outlet of the radiator, and it may need to be replaced.
In any event, it's not your boiler or your radiator. You should insist that the landlord fix it. It's what you pay rent for.
